An online instrument, first of such type in Ukraine, for public monitoring of greenery planting «Kropyvnytskyi in Green» has been presented by Kropyvnytskyi City Council and Data Journalism Agency. It is made on the basis of open data, published by city council, and it allows all those who are interested to be informed about municipal plans on planting, trimming and cutting of the trees in this regional city.Just in few clicks one can find out how greenery planting is going on in the city without sending an official written inquiry. Anyone can see what has been done already and what works are still in process or planned. It is a tool that helps the inhabitants to control the planting, trimming and cutting of the trees according to city needs. And it also helps to plan such works properly.
In addition clear overview reflecting the true picture of city’s greenery planting eliminates the possibilities for corruption and misuse. For example, previously the contractors could trim and cut off the trees pursuing their own interests and not the real needs of the city since there was no well-defined information with addresses, necessary works, clients and contractors. When such data is public open the situations of misuse are no longer possible.
Therefore Kropyvnytsky city council is one of the first councils in Ukraine to open its actual detailed data on the management of greenery planting for public. And the inhabitants of Kropyvnytsky get an efficient instrument for public control and better communication with the authorities. With a help of this interactive tool one can easily check and see, what works are confirmed by municipal officials and what documents verify it, who orders those works and who gets the contracts for fulfilling them. All the information will be regularly updated in accordance with the actual data appearing from Kropyvnytsky city council.
The project is implemented by Data Journalism Agency within Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration and Services – TAPAS project with the assistance from The State E-Governance Agency of Ukraine. The implementation of the project in Ukraine is supported by USAID/UK aid.
